Ragnar

What does it take to run a grueling 200 mile relay race from Cumberland, MD to Washington, DC? 2 vans with 6 runners apiece, 12 pairs of running shoes, 8 cases of water, lots of cliff bars, more ibuprofen, a dozen ice packs, and 10 friends just naive enough to take part in such a feat.

Last Saturday, Shelly and I finished the DC Ragnar Relay Race with ten others in just under 34 hours. I wish the experience upon all others, the combination of a cross-country road trip and a marathon. Each runner ran three legs, one of them at night, and all hilly legs.

Highlights of the event -besides the 20 miles a running and the 30 hours of close bonding time- include waking up on a school's soccer field as a game was trying to begin. We also enjoyed milkshakes at midnight, pancakes at 5a.m, and a beer at the finish line.
