For memorial weekend, we took the girls to Jacksonville, North Carolina. not really a destination spot (unless you're a Marine), but we went to visit our friends the Giordanos. If you ever hear me speak of North Carolina, I often refer to it as "God's country", so I was excited to take Shelly to NC. In hind sight, Jacksonville was not an awesome first choice. The whole time we were down there, Shelly kept saying, "I just don't like this climate. It's scrubby, sandy, and humid." The story of an ten foot alligator hanging out one block from our friends' sons school also did not impress her. We did visit
Wilmington, which I love, and
New Bern, another quaint, southern town where Nicholas Sparks lives. Regardless, of the scrub and sand, we had a great time with the Giordanos and cannot wait to go back.

In other news, we took Madison and Kate to our first
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball game. Grandpa, you can rest easy for your granddaughters like baseball. We actually stayed through most of the game, until rain and a tornado watch scared us home.
As for now, school is out and days have been spent at the pool, running through the sprinkler and sitting on our front porch rocking chairs and reading books (yes, it does sound quite southern doesn't it.... don't say that to Shelly).
