(Kate and the Aussie, neighbor boy, Thomas and the other neighbor boy, Liam)
Shelly and I just finished cleaning up after Kate's first birthday party. We had mostly neighbors over for crab cakes and cold beer. And besides the unusually hot weather, it was nice afternoon. Shelly created memory boxes for both the girls. She then asked people to fill the boxes with mementos marking Kate's first year. These mementos could be anything, a letter, pictures, a book -anything you want the girls to have when they turned sixteen. This has turned out to be a fun thing to do for the girls, and Kate received some truly original items for her memory box (but I will not spoil it for Kate in case she snoops later in life). Madison's and Kate's memory boxes will reflect where we lived at the time they turned one, Madison in San Diego and Kate here. This alone makes the memory boxes pretty neat for them.
In other news since Kate's birthday, a pier at one of the Navy's bases caught fire. I only mention this for this is big news for a small town. In fact, I am pretty sure the whole town went down to the local fishing pier to watch the pier burn, and for some reason I found the whole spectator spectacle humorous.
In more important news, Kate decided to start walking today. For the past couple week or so, she can stand on her own, and if coerced, take a step or two before collapsing to the ground and crawling to wherever/whomever she is trying to reach. Today, she just started walking, no coercion necessary. Pretty soon we will just want her to slow down.
